AZtecAsbestos is an application module for AZtecFeature. It is not a standalone product. You must already own and have installed AZtecFeature on your acquisition PC. Because AZtecAsbestos runs inside AZtecFeature, it inherits the same hardware compatibility: it works with every Oxford Instruments EDS detector and with any SEM or FIB-SEM that already runs AZtec.
AZtecAsbestos applies a pre-trained machine learning model to automatically detect fibres, which are then analysed with EDS and classified according to their species. Because the model detects fibres without the need to threshold, set-up is faster and results are more consistent between operators.
What it delivers:
• Reliable fibre detection
• Fast screening of samples
• Automation for multiple sample runs, minimising instrument down time
• Effective separation of fibres even when they are curved or overlapping, with accurate measurement of true fibre length
Easy to use:
• Step Notes make training of new users easier and help ensure everyone follows the same analytical routine
• The user profile ships with presets, for example image scan size, so you can start quickly
• Acquisition settings can be modified and saved for re-use
• Accurate element identification and quantification with Tru-Q IQ algorithms, even at the highest throughput
Flexible:
• The supplied classification scheme is fully customisable; add classes and subclasses or edit existing ones
• Terminate analyses automatically when user-defined criteria are met, for example 20 fibres of a certain species
• Apply morphology and EDS filters to focus only on the fibres of interest and save time
• Automatically acquire additional data from fibres satisfying criteria such as aspect ratio or composition
• Manual and automated reacquisition
• Perform in-depth follow-up investigation of particles within the same software suite
Methodology:
• The machine learning algorithm triggers automatically as soon as a BSE image is collected and fibres are detected
• The electron beam is driven to each detected fibre and EDS data is acquired
• Quantified EDS spectra are filtered through the AZtecAsbestos classification scheme and fibres are classified by the criteria they meet
• Supports large area automated runs, with either overlapping or spaced fields
• Fibre reconstruction for accurate measurement of the number of fibres in the sample
Applications:
Asbestos fibre identification, air filter analysis and environmental fibre screening.
