AZtecGeo is a geoscience dedicated user profile for particle analysis software AZtecFeature. Its aim is to guide the collection of high-quality data and assist with translating elemental information into mineralogy, reducing the user requirement for building classification schemes.

AZtecGeo is an application module for AZtecFeature. It is not a standalone product. You must already own and have installed AZtecFeature on your acquisition PC. Because AZtecGeo runs inside AZtecFeature, it inherits the same hardware compatibility: it works with every Oxford Instruments EDS detector and with any SEM or FIB-SEM that already runs AZtec.
Optimising automated EDS analysis and building elaborate mineral classification schemes can be significant time-sinks. AZtecGeo empowers geoscientists with the required tools and guidance to perform high-quality, large area, compositional and textural analysis. A pre-made classification scheme rapidly translates chemical information into usable mineralogical data.
• Built-in mineral classification scheme offering more than 200 common rock forming minerals: silicates, oxides, sulphides, sulphates, carbonates and phosphates
• Acquisition settings tailored for geological materials: image dwell time and resolution, EDS process time, counting statistics
• Step notes that guide the acquisition of high-quality data, adapted for geological materials and workflows
• Hydrous and carbonaceous mineral classes adjusted to suit normalised EDS data where C and H are not quantified
• A BSE image is acquired and greyscale thresholds segment the phases within the image
• Each phase that satisfies the threshold is sequentially analysed by EDS
• Quantified EDS spectra are filtered through a series of classes, assigned to a mineral class (e.g. oxide) then automatically filtered into a subclass (e.g. ilmenite)
• Users can edit elemental ranges, generate new mineral classifications and add morphological criteria such as aspect ratio
• Particles broken by field boundaries are reconstructed for full morphological and chemical characterisation

• Automatic compensation for changes to image contrast and brightness during a run
• Run completion summary with validation reports on SEM beam stability and EDS detector resolution

• Batch export of all particles, or of data from specific classes and subclasses

Target phases identified in AZtecGeo can be relocated and investigated further using integrated EBSD, WDS, Raman and BEX detectors, without leaving the software.
