Force Curves

An AFM Force Curve is a single-point measurement in which the cantilever approaches and presses into the sample during the measurement, then retracts. In this process, the cantilever deflection and height position are recorded, which are converted into measurements of force and tip-sample separation, ultimately providing mechanical information about the sample.

AFM force curves can be used to determine a sample's various mechanical properties, including adhesion, stiffness, viscoelasticity, unfolding/tensile measurements, and indentation depth.
