Preparation Surfaces

Melinex® film is a convenient polyester substrate for growing cell cultures and for later incorporation into blocks.  Supplied in a pack of 5 sheets.

Freshly cleaved ruby muscovite mica surfaces are extremely even and flat. Mica Sheets 75mm x 25mm x 0.15mm thick (Rectangular - Pack of 20). Cleaving mica involves insertion of a sharp edge or point into an edge or corner of the sheet and gently prying apart the leaves. A good sharp razor blade edge will do the job and in some cases a sharp pointed tweezer may accomplish this.

These 2" (50.8mm), 3" (76.2mm) and 4" (102mm) diameter silicon wafers can be used either as substrates for thin film research or to make small silicon substrates by dicing the wafer into smaller pieces using a scriber. Choose your type from the drop-down menu.

Cellulose acetate sheets and tape provide a quick and convenient means of replicating surfaces, particularly from large objects which cannot be sectioned.

This material is cellulose acetate of a thickness 50 micron. It is soluble in acetone.
